Winnipeg's shining star — yes. On January 31, 2009 JD ’s song "Eastern Breeze" was awarded first prize in the Winnipeg Free Press My City/My Song contest and it gets even better. He's also landed a spot performing at the Hawksley Workman concert at the Great Western Roadhouse in Brandon on February 24, 2009. I can't think of anyone else who deserves the title of The Sounding Board "ARTIST OF THE MONTH" more than JD Edwards!!! When he's not gigging around town or on tour, JD can be found heading up songwriting workshops at the Red Road Lodge, formerly the New Occidental at the corner of Main and Logan. On Monday, March 2, 2009, he'll be performing there live at the Down Town Coffee Ground, a monthly grassroots coffee house co-produced by Spin Star Studio and Sweet Spot Productions and sponsored by CKUW 95.9 FM. The JD Edwards Band, his five-piece electric folk-rock ensemble, synthesizes Blind Melon's funk and Black Crowes' blues while JD weaves his vocal tapestry with the stoned sexiness of Dave Matthews and the wild outbursts of Ben Harper. Their first self-titled full-length album was engineered and produced by Mike Wagner. JD also released a solo live acoustic album in 2008 produced by Dan Donahue and Denis Buchan "JD Edwards Live at The Gas Station Theatre 02.20.08". Whether he plays solo or with his band, JD is a passionate singer/songwriter with a voice that carries and fills rooms with emotion— a performance you can experience for yourself at the Down Town Coffee Ground on March 2nd, 2009.
