As friends growing up in St. Boniface, Hudson Gevaert, Kevin Albo & Joe St. Mars began exploring their creative sides while amassing a collection of songs in the process. Individually, they were quite diligent in honing their respective crafts, and it was just a matter of time before they began writing together. Channeling the intensity of rock and roll, grunge, and punk through a sweeping breezy folk-roots framework – with influences spanning a multitude of genres and artists, including the likes of Mason Jennings, Jackie Greene, Nirvana, the Pixies, Bad Religion, Neil Young, Dave Matthews, and early Metallica – their sound simply defies boundaries.
After countless nights of playing in Joe’s basement, at open-mic nights in Winnipeg, and around numerous campfires, they finally settled on the band name No Remedy.
With years of guitar experience, Hudson Gevaert perpetuates a fresh sound with determination, continually creating and playing around unique song structures. The talented Joe St. Mars is the heartbeat of the band with his explosive drumming and perfectly tailored fills. Kevin Albo lends his voice to No Remedy’s inspirational platform, with creative lyrics that capture the tenderness and intensity of the music while straddling serious subject matters. The trio inherently develops brooding rhythmic tempos inflected with melody and tempered with a voice of honesty and urgency.
With themes about pressing environmental issues, the calamity of the state of global politics, relationships, feelings of isolation and abandonment, or simple reflections on life and personal growth, the songs always reflect a keen interest in the human condition. The band is always evolving, always searching for that which is always elusive – a wistful human condition indicated by the simple moniker – No Remedy.
