| The Sounding Board © ARTIST OF THE MONTH December 2008 |
Ian Wheeler hails from southwestern Manitoba and has been playing music since he was a child. Starting off on the piano, he moved temporarily to the trombone, and then quickly to the guitar. Now living in Winnipeg for over ten years, Ian is finally putting a little bit of time into his passion. School kept him busy through his early twenties and the lack of will to step on a stage also slowed things down. Lately, he has been playing his own origianls at a few places, including Dylan O'Connors on Portage Ave, The Sounding Board open mic at The Lounge of Charlie O & Friends on Stafford, and The Folk Exchange. It's only been eight months of live shows, but he has been getting consistently better with each show. Ian brings his own special blend of passionate and emotional acoustic music to each and every song he performs. Every song should have an emotion tied to it and this is what he strives for. "Music is a fibre of our society and runs through each of us...". Ian strongly believes that everyone needs to embrace this feeling as often as possible. Currently, Ian is collecting a variety of his songs and putting them together in hopes of releasing a professional EP and then who knows. Until next time, as Ian says, "keep it real."
